What a bout! At the first whistle, the chaos began. The hard were hard, the jammers were fast, and the crowd was in for a treat. Harbor City lost lead in the very first jam, but was able to grab 2 points to the Babes 1. After that, we held on the lead. The Babe City Rollers has outstanding fan support, and smart game play, allowing them to keep chipping away at the lead HCRD had against them. Power Jams were being traded back and forth, but HCRD was able to keep the points bleeding to a minimum and maximize on the chance to build the lead. If you missed this one, you missed two outstanding Northern Minnesota teams show why we are not to be overlooked.
The Ref staff was on top of their game, and they had their work cut out for them. The Harbor City Jammer would go to the box, to be followed by the Babe City Jammer, to then again have the Harbor City Jammer go back again! It was quite the back and forth. Two main Babe City players fouled out in the second half, accumulating 7 majors and being sent to the locker room. The slower packs racked up the directions of plays on both sides, and the fast packs were being watched carefully for elbows and forearms.
We were fortunate to have Em Power of the North Star Roller Girls helping wrangle NSOs, our favorite Flying Bricks keeping the score up to date, visiting refs Mama Kitty, Captain Fantastic and MicHELLe on Wheels. Stripe Forces as always was keeping the bout safe and enforcing the WFTDA rules.
Half time the lights were dimmed and the crowd got "fired" up by the Spin Collective. If you have not seen this performance yet, you are in the dark! These amazingly talented individuals had everyone gasping, awing and entertained. Look them up on Facebook to see their next performance.
